UK Drivers could be wasting up to £200 per year on fuel

Research shows UK drivers could be wasting up to £200 each on fuel every year due to poorly maintained vehicles.

Retailer Halfords said the figure could reach up to £1,000 for motorists with very high mileage, such as van drivers.

Driving with under-inflated tyres, using the wrong grade of engine oil and lack of general maintenance can increase fuel consumption but up to nine percent.

Follow these tips to improve your fuel efficiency:

  • Ensure your tyres are inflated to the correct pressures & check your tyre pressures regularly.
  • Service & maintain your vehicle regularly – check tracking (wheel alignment)
  • Turn off your air-conditioning or heaters.
  • Remove excess weight from the vehicle
  • Use cruise control
