Experiencing a warning light, unusual noise, performance issue or an intermittent fault? Complete our diagnostic assessment form and a member of our team will review the information provided before recommending the next steps.
5-minute guides to common vehicle faults and warning lights.
Search by symptom, warning light, noise or vehicle behaviour.
If you are experiencing a fault with your vehicle, please complete our Diagnostic Assessment Form with as much detail as possible.
Providing clear information about the symptoms helps us allocate the correct time, equipment and technician before your vehicle arrives.
Once submitted, a member of our technical team will review your enquiry and advise on the next steps.
Just like detectives, we start by gathering all the facts.
We use our purpose-built assessment forms to collect key details about the fault, when it happens, how often, what conditions it occurs under, and any warning lights or symptoms. These forms are designed to give our technicians the full picture from the start, helping us work faster and smarter.
Once we’ve reviewed your information, we’ll get back to you with a recommended initial assessment time — this is how long we feel we need to begin investigating the issue properly.
Once you’re happy with the proposed assessment time, we’ll book your vehicle in for the assessment. Nothing goes ahead until you’ve confirmed you’re happy with the plan.
We carry out the diagnostic work and report our findings.
You’ll never be charged for more time than you approved. We do not fit parts or carry out repairs without your authorisation.
Every assessment is different. Once we’ve investigated, we’ll advise you on the best route forward — whether it’s a fix, further diagnosis, or something else entirely. You’ll have all the information you need to make the right decision for your vehicle.

I have been taking my car to a Garage in Colchester for around 6 years and the service they provide has been getting progressively worse. So THANK GOODNESS for Shakily Motor Co on Hawkins Road. They booked me in very last minute, were able to then book me in again
Today I visited Shaiklys for some advice on managing my rather ancient car with strange noises. They were exceptionally kind and helpful, I feel incredibly fortunate to have them as our local garage, we are blessed.
As always Shaikly provide a very high quality of service. I always find them to be friendly and, most importantly for a repair garage, trustworthy. Highly recommended.
The quality of a business is reflected in how they resolve problems and Shaikly Motor Co has consistently exceeded our expectations. Friendly, efficient and professional – need I say more? 23rd March – I recommended a friend who had a tyre damaged in a pothole (RoversTye roundabout, Ipswich Road –
I’ve found all staff to be polite, efficient and customer focused. Which is something that is hard to find hence my returning each year and in between!!
