Car Air Conditioning Services and Repair in Colchester

A vehicle’s air conditioning system plays a key role in maintaining cabin comfort and air quality. Regular servicing ensures it operates efficiently, prevents refrigerant loss, and reduces the buildup of bacteria and mould.

Signs That Your Air-Con Needs Attention

A reduction in cooling effectiveness is often the first sign that the air conditioning system needs servicing. If the air feels less cool than usual or fails to cool at all, it may be time for a regas. If your system has never been recharged, it’s worth having it inspected.

Common Causes of Air Conditioning Problems

The refrigerant in the system plays a crucial role in temperature regulation. It cycles between gas and liquid states to cool the cabin. Over time, small amounts of refrigerant naturally escape, leading to reduced performance. In some cases, leaks or damaged components can also cause a decline in efficiency and require further inspection.

When to Service or Re-gas Your Air Conditioning

Car manufacturers generally advise servicing the air conditioning system every two years. Keeping the system in good condition improves cooling efficiency and helps with windscreen demisting during colder months. If refrigerant levels drop too low, the system has to work harder, increasing fuel consumption. Prolonged neglect can also lead to cracked pipes or component failure.

What Happens During an Air-Con Service?

The process starts by extracting any remaining refrigerant from the system. A vacuum test is then carried out to check for any major leaks.

If a leak is detected at this stage, we won’t proceed with the regas—instead, we’ll advise you on the next steps and whether an assessment is required.

If the system passes the vacuum test, it will be refilled with fresh refrigerant. At this point, we also add a UV dye, which helps us trace any smaller leaks during a follow-up inspection using a UV light.

Air Conditioning Services We Offer

  • Re-Gassing (Refrigerant Recharge): Air conditioning systems gradually lose refrigerant over time. Recharging restores performance and ensures effective cooling
  • Sanitisation and Deodorisation: Bacteria and moUld can accumulate in the system, leading to unpleasant odours. Regular sanitisation improves air quality inside the car.
  • Leak Detection and Diagnostics: If cooling performance declines, there may be a leak or another fault. Advanced diagnostics help pinpoint and resolve issues.
  • Deep Cleaning: A thorough cleaning process removes allergens and bacteria from the system, improving hygiene and reducing airborne contaminants inside the vehicle.

How We Have Helped Others Just Like You…

Frequently Asked Questions:

How often should an air conditioning system be checked?
Most manufacturers recommend a routine check-up once a year, with a full refrigerant recharge every two years.
Why does my air conditioning produce a bad smell?
Bacteria and mould can grow in the system, especially in humid conditions. A sanitisation treatment eliminates contaminants and prevents odours.
What are the signs that my air conditioning needs repair?
Symptoms include weak cooling, unusual noises, or excessive moisture in the cabin. A diagnostic check can identify potential faults.
Do you service different types of air conditioning systems?
Yes, we service both R134a and R1234yf refrigerant systems, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of vehicle models.
Do I only need air conditioning gas in the summer?
No, your air conditioning system should be maintained year-round. It helps with demisting your windscreen in colder months and prevents the system’s components from drying out, which can lead to leaks or other failures.
