BSI British Standards is the UK’s National Standards Body (NSB) and was the world’s first. It represents UK economic and social interests across all of the European and international standards organizations and through the development of business information solutions for British organizations of all sizes and sectors. BSI British Standards works with manufacturing and service industries, businesses, governments and consumers to facilitate the production of British, European and international standards.
Part of BSI Group, BSI British Standards has a close working relationship with the UK government, primarily through the Department for Innovation, University and Skills (DIUS). In order to meet legislation, standards and best practice and in the best interests of the public, there is a need to promote standards of safety among road recovery operators. PAS 43 contains requirements for the management of road recovery operators with the aim of increasing safety and promoting best practice. Thus, the minimum standards laid down in this document can be used to give vital assurance both inside and outside this industry sector. This Publicly Available Specification (PAS) specifies a management system for road recovery operators. The requirements contained within it are intended to increase the safety of road recovery operator technicians and road users. 
It promotes best practice procedures for attending vehicle breakdowns at the roadside, The recovery and/or removal of vehicles from the roadside and other aspects of vehicle breakdown recovery and removal by specifying requirements for:
  • the type, maintenance and safety marking of road recovery vehicles and their equipment
  • the training and behaviour of road recovery technicians
  • the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by road recovery technicians
  • the maintenance and organization of road recovery operators’ premises
  • the effective implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) is the trade association for the retail motor industry. The Associations and Divisions that make up the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) are:

Cherished Numbers Dealers Association (CNDA) - represents businesses specialising in cherished number plates.

Independent Garage Association (IGA) - represents a wide range of used car sales, service, repair and specialist automotive services, and includes a dedicated Operations Team for MOT testing stations.

Motorcycle Retailers Association (MRA) - represents new and used moped, scooter and motorcycle sales, servicing, repair and parts accessory businesses.

MVRA - represents high quality support services such as technical helplines, health and safety, business development, marketing and kitemark services.

RMI National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) - represents franchised dealers from single site businesses to large multi-franchised groups and includes the National Truck Council for commercial vehicle operators.

Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) - represents petrol retailers and forecourt operators, and includes convenience retailing services.
